UK player wins £1m on Powerball: the third in 36 draws, and what the odds say

One UK ticket matched five numbers in Tuesday’s Powerball draw and won £1 million. It’s the third UK Powerball millionaire since July. We worked out whether that’s more than the odds predict.

A third UK Powerball millionaire

One UK ticket matched all five main numbers in the Powerball draw on Tuesday 13 October 2026 and won £1,000,000. Only the Powerball itself was missing.

The winning numbers were 22, 28, 38, 51 and 69, with Powerball 9. The draw happens in the US on Monday night, which is just before 4am on Tuesday in the UK.

Nobody anywhere matched all six, so the jackpot rolls over. The National Lottery puts the UK jackpot for the next draw at £287 million, paid over 30 years. It has kept growing since, and Saturday’s jackpot is $600m, or about £309m for a UK winner.

Every UK prize from the draw

These are the prizes paid to UK players, from The National Lottery’s official prize breakdown.

  • Match 5 + Powerball: no winners. The UK jackpot was £279,910,513, paid over 30 years.
  • Match 5: 1 winner, £1,000,000.
  • Match 4 + Powerball: 2 winners, £17,275.10 each.
  • Match 4: 13 winners, £1,452.80 each.
  • Match 3 + Powerball: 43 winners, £503.50 each.
  • Match 3: 948 winners, £59.70 each.
  • Match 2 + Powerball: 865 winners, £31.90 each.
  • Match 1 + Powerball: 7,082 winners, £14.80 each.
  • Powerball only: 17,906 winners, £10.90 each.
  • Match 2: 20,071 winners, £8 each.

Three £1m winners in 36 draws

UK players have been able to buy Powerball through The National Lottery since July 2026. This was the 36th UK draw.

The other two £1m winners came on Tuesday 1 September (draw 18) and Tuesday 22 September (draw 27). That’s a £1m winner exactly every 9 draws, all on a Tuesday. It’s a coincidence. Every draw has the same odds.

Is that more than the odds predict?

The odds of matching 5 numbers without the Powerball are 1 in 11,688,054 per line. How many £1m winners the UK should have had depends on how many lines UK players have bought, and The National Lottery doesn’t publish that.

We can get close, though. Match 2 pays a fixed £8 and the odds are about 1 in 28, so the number of Match 2 winners in each draw shows roughly how many lines were played. Across all 36 draws, that comes to about 24 million lines. That’s around 675,000 a draw, peaking at about 1.6 million in launch week.

Here’s how the results compare with the odds:

  • Match 5 (£1m): about 2 winners expected. There have been 3.
  • Match 4 + Powerball: about 27 expected. There have been 25.
  • Any prize: about 1 line in 13 has won something. The official odds are 1 in 14.

So are UK players lucky?

A little, with the £1m prize. With that many lines, you’d expect 3 or more £1m winners about a third of the time, so it’s nothing unusual. The smaller prizes are landing almost exactly where the odds say they should.

The jackpot is a different story. The odds are 1 in 292,201,338, so with about 24 million UK lines there was roughly a 1 in 12 chance that a UK player would have won it by now. Nobody has yet.

These figures are our estimates, worked out from the official winner counts. They aren’t official sales figures. For how Powerball compares with Lotto, EuroMillions and the rest, see which lottery has the best odds.

If a UK player wins the jackpot

They’ll be paid over 30 years, not as a lump sum. That’s the big difference from US winners like Edwin Castro, who took nearly $1 billion in cash. Our guide on how to play Powerball from the UK has the full prize table and UK draw times.
